Conservative Christian media personality and author Eric Metaxas recalled Robertson as a "great man of God." 

"I just learned that Phil Robertson is with Jesus. I cannot adequately say how much I respected and loved this great man of God," Metaxas wrote in a social media post. 

"He was the real deal, and I feel deeply honored and privileged to have known him. God bless his wonderful family. We know where he is. Praise the Lord."
