'Pikmin 4' News: Strategy Game 'Very Close to Completion'

News has emerged Nintendo's strategy video game, "Pikmin 4," is nearing the end of its development, its creator has announced.

Two years after "Pikmin 3" was released to positive reviews, its creator and Nintendo video game director Shigeru Miyamoto officially announced the fourth main installment to the "Pikmin" video game series, adding that "Pikmin 4" is "actually very close to completion."

Miyamoto told Eurogamer that Nintendo has had "Pickmin 4" under development for a while now and in fact, the team working on the game has already begun a fifth installment.

While it may have taken fans a nearly 10-year wait between "Pikmin 2" and "Pikmin 3," it appears the fourth game in the multi-colored plant-animal hybrid universe won't be long in coming.

However, the game director did not divulge any information about the upcoming game, including its storyline, platform, and release dates. Speculations have emerged the game's mechanics would involve marshalling the Pikmin to achieve a certain quest.

While no launch date has been released, more official news about "Pikmin 4" is expected to start emerging around 2016.

Nintendo's Pikmin are an army of small, multi-hued creatures that help players survive on a strange and mysterious planet. Leading the intelligent Pikmin, a tiny alien named Captain Olimar from planet Hocotate directs them to perform several tasks, like retrieving objects and fighting monsters.

Being small and weak, each individual Pikmin requires the guidance of players to steer them away from obstacles and to launch attacks against enemies, with the player encouraged to finish as many tasks as possible before sunset in the game divided according to single days.

The colors of the Pikmin also represent their strengths and abilities. Blue Pikmin have gills and can swim underwater. Yellow Pikmin are lightweights that can be tossed higher up in the air. They are also immune to electricity. White Pikmin can withstand poisonous gasses and act as detectors of buried objects, while Purple Pikmin are the strongest and heaviest of the colors.
