Protection We Might Not See

Genesis 20

Abraham's lack of faith, Sarah's beauty and Abimelech's lust had created what could have been a disastrous situation. Abraham was afraid to acknowledge Sarah as his wife, so Abimelech had taken her into his house, with full plans to sleep with her. There's no written indication of what kept him from sleeping with her right away. But we know God didn't like what was going on. Because of the situation, God closed up the wombs of all of Abimelech's wives and concubines. In those days, a house full of barren women was a house full of useless women. But God, in His mercy, protected Abimelech from committing a deadly sin.

So many times in our own lives, God keeps us from sinning... many times when we don't even know it. An old saying goes, "Coincidence is a miracle in which God chooses to remain anonymous." There are so many coincidences in our lives... so many anonymous miracles... situations that God creates to keep us out of the path of sin. Even when we cannot see it, God is always working in our lives. And through His infinite mercy, He is paving the road before us, throwing up roadblocks to sin that we never know are there.
