Reservations for Sept. 11 Memorial Tickets Hit Over 40,000

The September 11 Memorial, which is set to open in a few months, has racked up 42,000 ticket reservations on its website within a day of opening its booking system. It is estimated that the reservations will increase even more over the coming weeks before the 10th anniversary.

The memorial opens to the public on Sept. 12 and visitors will be able to get timed passes to see the memorial. On Sept. 11 the memorial will only be open to families and invited dignitaries.

As noted in the Drudge Report, officials are expected to limit the number of visitors to approximately 1,500 at a time.

The construction of the 9/11 Memorial is making good progress with the two enormous waterfalls and reflecting pools being tested over the past week. Each pool is about an acre in size, and both are set within the footprints of the original twin towers.

The Memorial Plaza is one of the most eco-friendly plazas every constructed. More than 400 trees are planned for the plaza, surrounding the memorial's two massive reflecting pools. Its design has been created to convey a spirit of hope and renewal.

The victims killed on Sept. 11, 2001, as well as the February 26, 1993, attack on the site, will be inscribed on bronze parapets surrounding the twin memorial pools.

Passes for the memorial will be free and the online system can be found at www.911memorial.org. Reservations can also be made by calling (212) 266-5201 between 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. daily.
