Rockefeller Tree Lighting: Rod Stewart, Cee Lo Green, Mariah Carey Perform in New York (VIDEO)
The Rockefeller tree lighting event took place on Wednesday night with Cee Lo Green and Rod Stewart being featured to kick off the official Christmas season in New York City.
The celebrities performed at the tree lighting ceremony outside New York's Rockefeller Center.
The event was attended by thousands of New Yorkers and tourists despite freezing cold conditions. The lighting was the 80th annual ceremony, which sees the lighting of New York's most famous Christmas tree.
In a special feature, Green came on stage to rapturous applause by riding on a red sleigh along with The Muppets.
Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy were in attendance as Green belted out This Christmas and All I Need is Love from his new Christmas album, Cee Lo's Magic Moment.
Next up at the event was Rod Stewart, who treated fans to his version of Christmas track Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. He also received massive applause from the crowd.
Once the singers had finished their performances, New York mayor Michael Bloomberg emerged and flipped the switch to officially turn on the Christmas lights which immediately lit up Rockefeller Square.
The crowd were also treated to other celebrity performances to help them celebrate the turning on of the Christmas tree lights. Mariah Carey also appeared with a pre-recorded performance, singing All I Want For Christmas Is You.
American Idol winner Scotty McCreery was also in attendance and performed for the crowd.
The event was hosted by Billy Crystal and Bette Midler.
