Salvation Army Encourages Participation on "Feed America Thursday"

A U.S.-adopted resolution encourages Americans to skip two meals on the Thursday before Thanksgiving and donate the money that would have been used for the food to charities and religious organizations.

The Salvation Army is asking Americans to participate in “Feed America Thursday” on Nov. 18, a day in which Americans are encouraged to sacrifice two meals and donate the money they would have used for the food to a charity or religious organization to feed the hungry and the homeless.

“Feed America Thursday” was an idea spawned by David Earl Perry, a technical writer living in Provo, Utah, in 2002. The United States later adopted the bi-partisan resolution, sponsored by Sen. Orrin Hatch and Nevada Senator Harry Reid, that urged support for observation.

The Salvation Army is asking that Americans contact their local Salvation Army offices to see how they can participate and donate.
