'Sonic Adventure 3' Unlikely to Happen, According to Sonic Team Leader

Takashi Iizuka, the leader of SEGA's Sonic Team, recently said "Sonic Adventure 3" might never happen.

"Sonic the Hedgehog" has been a fan-favorite game since its release in the early '90s. The classic franchise continued to gain popularity as the "Sonic Adventure" series ushered in a modern version of the game. Longtime fans are still hoping for a "Sonic Adventure 3," but it looks like SEGA has no plans of continuing the series soon.

"I hear people saying that they want 'Adventure 3,' but the path that we're on and ... 'Adventure 3,' what fans want that to be, might not be an advancement of the series," Iizuka told Polygon. "So I don't want to do an 'Adventure 3' and step the franchise back just to give the fans what they want."

The developer clarified  that they have not lost all hope for "Sonic Adventure 3." Iizuka said if they can come up with an idea that helps the franchise move forward, the anticipated installment can happen. "We want to advance the idea of what a Sonic game is," noting they will not produce games just to give fans what they want.

In other news, SEGA has announced that "Sonic Forces" will officially be released on Nov. 7 for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PC. This launch date will only be for the European and U.S. market though. It will be available for $39.99 on all retailers.

Additionally, SEGA confirmed that a special "Bonus Edition" of the game will be unlocked for those who preordered. Aside from a physical copy of the game, the free Bonus Edition comes with "Sonic Forces" controller skin and an add-on called "Sega/Atlus pack." Additional 13-in-game outfit items that represent classic games in the SEGA franchise (i.e., "Persona 5," "Jet Set Radio," "Super Monkey Ball," "NiGHTS" and "Puyo Puyo") are also included.
