'Suicide Squad' Release Date, Cast News: Jai Courtney Eyed for Deadshot Role

Aside from Jared Leto as the Joker and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, recent cast rumors from Variety is now pointing to the Australian actor Jai Courtney taking up the role of Deadshot in the upcoming David Ayer movie titled "Suicide Squad."

According to the media outlet, the "A Good Day to Die Hard" actor is reportedly "in talks" to play Deadshot, the Batman comic book canon villain.

The 28-year-old actor appeared in numerous projects both in the small and big screens. Recently, he starred in "Divergent" as Eric. He will also play the character Kyle Reese in the upcoming film "Terminator: Genisys" and Hugh Cuppernell in Angelina Jolie's WWII biopic "Unbroken."

Aside from the names mentioned above, Tom Hardy and Will Smith have also been allegedly eyed to play roles in "Suicide Squad." Hardy could be Rick Flag while Smith will don the mask of Digger Harkness a.k.a. Captain Boomerang.

As for Courtney's purported character, Deadshot is another key villain in the Batman comic universe. Known as Floyd Lawton, Deadshot doesn't have any superhuman abilities. However, his extreme marksmanship that he owes to the cybernetic eye implanted on his head makes him one of the most deadly assassins in the DC Universe.

His team, the Suicide Squad, is a group of super villains who are given the chance to redeem themselves by carrying out the "deadly" missions handed out to them by the government.

"Suicide Squad" is scheduled to arrive in theaters in August 5, 2016.
