'Sully' Movie 2016 Trailer and Updates: Real-life Investigators of 2009 US Airways Flight 1549 Mishap Slam Movie Portrayal

NBTS Investigators of the U.S. Airways Flight 1549 react to the portrayal of investigators in the film, "Sully"

Back in 2009, a pilot managed to save an aircraft full of people after it lost control on both of its engines. Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger chose to land the craft on the Hudson River, saving 155 passengers and crew. It was clearly a success story, however, the drama for the US Airways Flight 1549 (also known as the Miracle on the Hudson) doesn't stop there.

Former investigators who were involved in the 2009 airline accident probe do not agree to the portrayal of the movie, "Sully", featuring phenomenal star Tom Hanks as the main character, which will land on cinemas today.

They say that the film may smear the reputation and credibility of the investigators involved. They claimed that it created a wrong impression of the investigators who seemed to put all the blame to the pilot, Sullenberger.

There were a lot of questions thrown by investigators which were included in the movie. Investigators said that the whole interrogation was just a part of National Transportation Safety Board's meticulous probe process.

It was done to see all the possible flaws behind the crash. By doing so, they could draft recommendations to several agencies in the aviation industry, government, labor unions and other participating groups who can help prevent future similar incidents to happen. The investigators recall that they were able to draft 35 safety recommendations as a result of the Flight 1549 investigation. According to the incident's lead investigator, Robert Benzon, the crew members were already heroes.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Hanks disclosed that the draft script included the names of the investigators. However, Sully requested to the film makers to take out their names. Hanks also added that the investigators did a very good job in probing the other possible factors which led to the mishap.

The adult biographical movie is produced under Village Roadshow and Warner Bros. Critics say it will debut with a profit of $20 million to $25 million. Predictions also say that if it hits higher, it may come close to the profits of "Captain Phillips".

The movie is based on Sullenberger's autobiography. It recounts the events Sullenberger and Skiles encountered during the disaster met by U.S. Airways Flight 1549 back in January 15, 2009 when a flock of Canadian geese caused both engines to shut down.

"Sully" premieres on Labor Day weekend at the Telluride Film Festival. It currently boasts off a 78 percent rating on "Rotten Tomatoes."
