Survey Finds 38 Percent of Filipinos are “Bibliophiles”

A national survey in the Philippines revealed the Bible as the most read book among the nation’s people. The poll, taken by the Social Weather Station, sampled 1,200 people from the Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao regions.

The National Book Development Board (NDBD) commissioned the survey, entitled, “Reading Attitudes and Preferences of Filipinos.”

38 percent of those polled said they read the Bible; romance novels came in second with a 26 percent response. Other Filipinos preferred to read cook books, religious or inspirational books, health books, reference books, business books, political books, history books, and sports books.
