'Tekken X Street Fighter' Development Put on Hold

Bandai Namco has officially stated that development for its fighting crossover title "Tekken x Street Fighter" is currently on hold. The game's director revealed it's no longer in active development and a release window is hard to determine at the moment.

Katsuhiro Harada, "Tekken" game director, spoke with GameSpot in an interview recently to talk about "Tekken 7," among other things. One of the topics that came up was "Tekken x Street Fighter."

"It's on hold for the moment," Harada told the publication.

"When we develop fighting games, we try to keep the core community in mind as well as the wider audience that wants to play these games," he explains. "But currently the situation is with fighting games, you have Street Fighter V that just released--a lot of people are playing that fervently--and there's a large crowd out there waiting or Tekken 7. We don't want to split these communities, so a good window in which to release Tekken x Street Fighter is something that's become difficult recently."

"Tekken 7" senior game designer Michael Murray previously said in an interview appearing in the Official PlayStation Magazine UK's April 2016 issue that "Tekken x Street Fighter's" development is ongoing, though the release date is was undecided yet.

"Tekken x Street Fighter" is Bandai Namco's end of the bargain of a previous partnership with Capcom. The title was announced way back in 2010, along with Capcom's counterpart "Street Fighter x Tekken." Capcom's title released a couple of years after the announcement in 2012.

While it appears "Tekken x Street Fighter" will take some time more before it hits the market, Bandai Namco has been kept busy by at least two other fighting titles, "Tekken 7: Fated Retribution" and "Pokken Tournament." The latter is already available while the latter will soon release.
