'The Deuce' Spoilers: Not All Characters Will Return in Season 2

"The Deuce" creators David Simon and George Pelecanos have revealed that not all characters that were introduced in the first season of the series will be returning for its sophomore season run.

While lead characters Candy (Maggie Gyllenhaal) and Vincent (James Franco) are returning next season, as well the latter's twin brother, Frankie (also played by Franco), are surely coming back, several others will no longer be making an appearance due to a seven-year time jump.

"Not every character will continue through all three storylines, obviously. That's a lot of years," Simon said in an interview with Uproxx. "It would be very unique for the entire world to journey through that stretch of time. But some characters clearly will," he went on to say.

He added, "We're responsible for credibly depicting the passage of time in these people's lives. Where we left them and where we pick them up, and why that makes complete sense if you're a viewer, in ways that have to be clever and direct and yet nuanced, and we have to justify those choices."

Harvey (David Krumholtz) has also been confirmed to be returning next season. Pelecanos admitted that although this particular character's role was supposed to be minor, it evolved into a bigger one because of the chemistry that Krumholtz shares with Gyllenhaal.

Meanwhile, Lawrence Gilliard Jr. has confirmed that he will be reprising his role as Chris Alston in "The Deuce" season 2. In an interview with Collider, the actor was asked if he knew about the future of his character.

While he said that he is still waiting to find out how exactly things will turn out, Gilliard Jr. teased that he knows Chris will be moving up the ranks and may have to make a few sacrifices to get there.

"The Deuce" season 2 is expected to premiere in 2018. No exact release date has been announced yet.
