'The Leftovers' Season 3 Spoilers: Kevin No Longer Crazy, New Location

For creative reasons, "The Leftovers" Damon Lindelof, the show's creator, and Tom Perrotta, the author of the novel on which the show is based, decided that the upcoming season, its third run, shall be the last. But that is not to say that its last run will be bereft of the elements which have marked it as "distinctive" and original, according to HBO. And to make things more exciting, the show is heading over to Australia for its new season.

The Garveys have been in two places since the global cataclysm which involved the disappearance of two percent of the world's population. When the event happened, the family had been in Mapleton, New York. They later relocated to Jarden, Texas, hoping for peace and quiet. Instead, Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux) had been plagued all the more by his hallucinations. He was always seeing Patti Levin, the Guilty Remnant leader who was already dead. He even had to use his powers to die twice over just to rid himself of his haunting visions of her.

After the desecration of Jarden, Kevin decided the family would move to Australia. This means some changes in the location for the much-awaited third season, although the definite place has not been revealed as yet. But it shall open in Texas, picking up the thread of the story from where it left off in the show's second season. In a developing storyline later in the new season, the move will then happen.

Wherever the story goes, the significant thing is that, this time, Kevin is no longer crazy. He had gotten rid of the younger Patti and then an injured adult one by dying twice and visiting some sort of hotel heaven, removing the haunting scepter from his sight.

Armed with his power to resurrect, Kevin and his family will face something totally different this season, as Lindelof promises.

"We decided to end the second season very similar to the first season. The Garveys felt like they could pick up and go to this place the Departure didn't happen, but lo and behold, the same exact thing happened. The only safe place is the place you're surrounded by the people you love. We can't do that again, and not just because the audience is expecting it, but because we were telling a story about geography in season two, while season three is going to be something else entirely."

No updates have been issued on whether the filming has started, but some preproduction activities may be ongoing as per tweet from one of the stars on the show, Amy Brenneman.

"Am in preproduction today for @TheLeftoversHBO," Brenneman tweets. "May be in the air when I wanna be tweeting."

Besides Theroux and Brenneman, the show also stars Liv Tyler, who plays Meg, Christopher Eccleston, as Matt Jamison, and Margaret Qualley, as Jill Garvey.

A premiere date has not been announced by HBO.
