'The Originals' Season 3 Casting News, Update: 'Veronica Mars' Alum Joins Vampire Drama Series
"Veronica Mars" alum Jason Dohring has now signed up for a recurring role on the upcoming third season of the CW's hit vampire TV drama series "The Originals."
The actor, who also starred in TV shows like "The Messengers" and "The Tomorrow People," will debut during the Season 3 premiere of the Vampire Diaries spinoff series.
He will be portraying the role of Detective Will Kinney, who is described by The Hollywood Reporter as "a smart and confident with a very clear sense of right and wrong, who is out to bring the forces of evil to justice. And while Kinney doesn't know exactly what's going on in New Orleans, he has a strong suspicion that something strange is happening beneath the surface of the city."
Dohring's character is one of the newcomers that fans should expect come Season 3. Executive producer Michael Narducci previously said that the forthcoming chapter will "explore the Original siblings's sire lines."
"If season two was about the return of the parents and the brothers, and this notion of your family coming back and haunting you, and all of the problems of the bloodline, this is definitely the season about the sire lines," the show runner told THR.
"We're going to double down on this being a vampire show. There's going to be a lot of vampire-on-vampire violence. There's going to be a lot of vampire intrigue. Some of these people will be enemies; some of these people will be allies. And there might be some potential love interests as well," Narducci continued.
"The Originals" Season 3 premieres Thursday, Oct. 8 at 9 p.m. on The CW.
