This week marks the anniversary of when a reported years-long revival began at Brownsville Assembly of God in Pensacola, Florida, drawing people from across the world to the worship.

According to the church’s website, the mass gathering began on Father’s Day 1995, with evangelist Steve Hill preaching about a recent spiritual experience in England.

From there, the church felt called to host numerous services, with large numbers of people worshiping for long periods of time and drawing the attention of prominent media outlets.

“In the early days of the revival, the faithful came by bus, car and airplane from all over the world. Eager worshipers waited for hours in the sweltering humidity to get a seat for 7 p.m. services that often lasted past midnight,” reported Charisma Online in 2022.

“When evangelist Steve Hill finished his nightly sermons — in which he demanded repentance from spiritual compromise — the majority of people in the auditorium would run to the front of the church and bury their faces in the floor.”
