There's still yet no official announcement that could confirm the exact release date for "True Detective" season 2 but fans are already hankering for more casting and plot rumors. Here's what we rounded up so far.

Mike Lombardo, HBO Programming Head, revealed substantial amount of information while speaking at the Guardian International Television Festival in Edinburgh, with regards to the development of the show's second season.

As quoted in the site, he first said that production will kick off in September so that it can hit its slated airing date next summer. Lombardo also gave off the idea that the forthcoming season will have its own story, cast, setting, and period.

"[It has] different characters, a different setting. It's set in California, all of California. There are three cops. One of the characters is female. I think that's probably all I'm allowed to say," the HBO official explained.

The interview went on with him revealing that he had read earlier parts of the scripts as well the outlines for two subsequent episodes written by Nic Pizzolatto. "The writing is better than last season. It's exceptional," Lombardo said.

Despite him saying that the second season will bear a lighter plot, Lombardo still emphasized the depth of the upcoming story.

"It's not as dark, but it's not a light ride," he added. "Nic likes looking into the crevices of the soul."

Further details indicated that there will be three or four directors who will be helming the second season's episodes. The names, however, are yet to be revealed in the next few weeks.

Actors Woody Harrelson (Detective Martin Eric "Marty" Hart) and Matthey McConaughey (Detective Rustin Spencer "Rust" Cohle) both have been nominated in the Emmy for their roles in the first season of "True Detective."
