Trump's week in review: E. Jean Carroll investigation; ‘anti-weaponization’ fund blocked; Iran ceasefire

1. Trump admin. touts 'full-scale war on fraud'

The Trump administration recently promoted what it called “an unrelenting, full-scale assault on the fraudsters, scammers, and corrupt operators who have looted billions from American taxpayers.”

The White House said on Tuesday that its Task Force to Eliminate Fraud has been “moving at unprecedented speed and ferocity to root out the waste, abuse, and criminal exploitation of government programs that have drained billions from hardworking taxpayers.”

These efforts have included federal prosecutors charging 11 people in a major real estate and loan fraud scheme that preyed on senior citizens in California and the launching a new whistleblower program to empower Americans to expose fraud. The administration says it is prosecuting more than a dozen people involved in a $50 million hospice fraud scheme and has issued criminal warrants and charges on 20 Minnesota businesses suspected of SNAP fraud.

The Department of Justice is conducting enforcement operations at around two dozen Minnesota childcare centers suspected of systemic fraud, the White House said.

The DOJ also expanded its Health Care Fraud Strike Force program to combat Medicaid fraud and charged 15 individuals allegedly involved in a wide-ranging Minnesota healthcare fraud scheme that was reportedly the largest autism fraud scheme prosecuted to date.

“This is only the beginning,” the White House stated. “The Trump Administration will continue this relentless effort until every scheme is exposed, every dollar possible is recovered, and the American people’s trust in their government is restored.”
