Trump's week in review: Comey charged again; $1M reward for reporting election fraud

2. Trump administration charges James Comey a third time
Federal prosecutors have filed charges against former FBI Director James Comey, the third time the Trump administration has brought a criminal case against him.
The charges, unsealed Monday, accuse Comey of transmitting national defense information and conspiring to transmit national defense information while he led the FBI.
“The United States’ investigation has uncovered evidence that former FBI Director, James B. Comey, sought to correct misinformation which had appeared in the press by way of Reuters the day before,” Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Dustin Farahnak wrote in a court filing, NBC News reported.
“The investigation has uncovered evidence that Mr. Comey directed staff to speak to Mr. [reporter Charlie] Savage about specific accuracy concerns related to the Reuters article, and thereby illegally transferred classified information,” the filing states.
In a video posted to Substack shortly after the charges were unsealed, Comey maintained his innocence.
“Well, they’re back again. It would almost be funny if it weren’t such an appalling abuse of the Department of Justice, one that we cannot become numb to,” Comey said. “Nothing’s changed with me. I’m still innocent. I’m still not afraid of these people, and I still believe in the independent federal judiciary.”
The administration previously charged Comey over his congressional testimony, but that case was dismissed last year after a judge ruled the prosecutor had been unlawfully appointed. A second case, over a photo Comey posted showing the numbers “86 47,” which critics called an anti-Trump message, is still pending.
