2. Trump calls for ‘Economic D-Day’ in Iran

In a message posted to Truth Social Wednesday, Trump reflected on the U.S. relationship with Iran as the war in Iran nears the six-month mark.

“No one has given the Islamic Republic of Iran a greater opportunity to make a Deal than me. TRAGICALLY, for them, they have failed to take it,” he wrote.

Trump announced his intention to spearhead “the MOST CRUSHING ECONOMIC OPERATION EVER TAKEN AGAINST ANY COUNTRY!” He vowed that “This will be Economic Warfare and Isolation on an unprecedented scale.”

“Their navy is gone, their air force is destroyed, their military factories are now rubble, their currency is worthless, and their country is hanging by a thread,” he added. “Today, I am also announcing that ANY country that allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to provide any type of lifeline to Iran will itself face TREMENDOUS Economic Consequences.”

After identifying “Oil smuggling, swap lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, [and] front companies” as examples of what “needs to STOP NOW,” the president said his new economic operation will amount to an “ECONOMIC D-DAY.” The term “D-Day” refers to the day in World War II when the Allied powers stormed the beaches of Normandy, France, in what is now viewed as a turning point in the conflict.

“We need all of our Allies to stand with the United States of America to isolate, and defeat, the Iran threat. These maniacs are on the ropes, and these HISTORIC MEASURES will cripple them and their ability to project terror worldwide. IRAN WILL NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON,” he concluded.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called Trump's comments a “diversion from America's own crisis" of "unprecedented debt & surging interest costs.”

“Doubling down on failed policies will only bring further defeat — and enmity of Iranians. U.S. economic terrorism threatens global economy and sovereignty worldwide,” Araghchi wrote on X Thursday morning.
