Trump's week in review: 'Economic D-Day' in Iran; plans to meet with Kim Jong Un

4. Trump says he plans to meet with Kim Jong Un
When speaking with reporters at the White House Wednesday, Trump was asked whether he planned to meet with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un this year. “Yeah, I will be,” he responded.
Trump declined to say whether he had been exchanging letters with Kim while praising “the fact that I get along with him” as “a good thing, not a bad thing.” Trump stressed that “he has 57 very powerful nuclear weapons” while predicting that “as long as we have a smart president, he’s going to be fine."
“If we have a dumb president, then he’s probably not going to be so fine," he said.
The question follows a Sunday Truth Social post in which Trump criticized the U.S. agreement to participate in “Joint Military Exercises with South Korea.” According to Trump, “These exercises are not only costly, with much of these costs paid for by the United States of America (as usual!), but send a signal that is totally inappropriate and hostile to a Country that, as long as Donald J. Trump has been President, has been unthreatening and respectful.”
“Therefore, and based on the fact that it is too late to cancel, I have instructed Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to substantially reduce the Joint Military Exercises!” Trump added. He began the post by noting his “very good relationship with Kim Jong Un.”
