Trump’s week in review: House limits Iran war powers; Kennedy Center name removal memo
1. Trump's name to be removed from the Kennedy Center
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts staff received a memo on Thursday directing them to remove President Donald Trump's name from the facility.
The memo came from the office of the general counsel, with a June 12 deadline for the changes, PBS News reported. The decision came in response to a legal ruling last month.
"The court ruled that the Board acted beyond its authority in adding President Trump's name to the Center and gave the Center 14 days from May 29 to remove all references to the Center being named for anyone other than John F. Kennedy," the memo was quoted as saying.
Last month, U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper ruled against both adding Trump's name to the center and a March decision by the center's board to close the facility.
"May the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts be renamed absent Congressional authorization? The answer, plain from the face of the statute, is no. Nor can any other individual be memorialized on the front portico of the building," Cooper ruled.
