Trump's week in review: Iran deal framework signed, Multiple schools facing Title IX probes

3. Trump signs framework for Iran deal
Trump officially signed a memorandum of understanding Thursday designed to resolve the conflict between the United States and Iran. The Iranian government released the terms of the framework in an X post Thursday, which include “the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon, and undertake from now on not to initiate any war or any military operation against each other, and to refrain from the threat or use of force against each other, and ensuring the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Lebanon.”
The agreement also gives the U.S. and Iran 60 days to work out the terms of a final deal. Another part of the deal would provide for a “definitive mutually agreed plan" with at least $300 billion for "the reconstruction and economic development of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” to be developed by the U.S. as well as “regional partners.”
Vice President JD Vance pushed back on concerns that this aspect of the deal involves the U.S. giving money to Iran at a press conference Thursday. The vice president insisted that Iran will get “not a single penny” from the U.S. “under any circumstances.”
Additional terms of the agreement include the U.S. pulling back on its naval blockade, which, as Vance explained during the press conference, has rendered Iran “completely unable to sell oil.” The U.S. will also lift sanctions against Iran in “an agreed upon schedule as part of the Final Deal,” while Iran vowed that it will “not procure or develop nuclear weapons.”
