1. Tulsi Gabbard announces resignation

In a resignation letter published Friday, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard announced her decision to step down.

“I must submit my resignation, effective June 30, 2026,” she wrote.

“My husband, Abraham, has recently been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer,” she added. “He faces major challenges in the coming weeks and months. At this time, I must step away from public service to be by his side and fully support him through this battle.”

Noting that her husband has served as her “rock” by supporting both her military and political careers, Gabbard asserted, “I cannot in good conscience ask him to face this fight alone while I continue in this demanding and time-consuming position.”

She expressed gratitude for her tenure under President Donald Trump, specifically citing the advancement of “unprecedented transparency” and the restoration of integrity to the intelligence community.

Acknowledging that “there is still important work to be done,” Gabbard assured that she is committed to ensuring "a smooth and thorough transition over the coming weeks."

A former Democrat who served four terms representing Hawaii in the U.S. House of Representatives, Gabbard left the Democratic Party in 2022 because of disagreements with what she characterized as the party’s embrace of “cowardly wokeness” and hostility “to people of faith & spirituality.”
