'Twin Peaks' News: Showtime Releases Teaser Trailer; 'All-At-Once' Release May Be Considered
Fans of the murder mystery TV series "Twin Peaks" clearly remember that sign which has the name of the fictional town as well as the town's population figure on it. They also remember that eerie music that became the show's signature. A few days ago, fans heard the show's theme again together with shots of some majestic waterfall when Showtime released the first teaser trailer for the revival of the series. Scheduled for release sometime in 2017, Showtime is also said to be considering releasing all the episodes in one go, according to a report in Screen Crush.
The teaser trailer, which runs for fifty seconds, also featured actor Michael Horse. He played Deputy Hawk in the 1990s show and in the video, he was saying something about where the show was being shot on location: "Location sometimes becomes a character. There's a lot of holy places up here, a lot of sacred places. I can't put my finger on how I would describe it. It just touches something in the psyche. It's almost like being in a moving painting."
The trailer also featured a blurry image of a person towards the end, which a Tech Times report said was no other than one of the show's creators, David Lynch. Earlier this year, the revival series was almost cancelled when Lynch and the network had some misunderstanding about the show's budget. Showtime, however, rectified this somehow and got the production going again, with Lynch and co-creator Mark Frost writing the script and Lynch directing.
Aside from the identity of people behind the scenes who are confirmed to come back - Frost, Lynch and based on recent rumors, composer Angelo Badalamenti - the only confirmed cast member so far is Kyle MacLachlan, who played FBI Agent Dale Cooper in the original series.
Given that in today's broadcasting industry, an "all-at-once" release model is possible, it seems that Showtime is also considering this model for "Twin Peaks." In an interview reported in Screen Crush, Showtime boss David Nevins said, "I haven't considered the various possibilities. I believe in a weekly release schedule, and I think David does, too. But as we get further down the road, we'll discuss it."
The new series will feature 18 new episodes written by Frost and Lynch and directed by Lynch. A 2017 release date is being considered by Showtime.
