Twinkies Return, Comeback Makes Waves on Twitter Monday

Twinkies are back in stores this week and people everywhere are celebrating the sweet treat.

The highly anticipated return of the beloved Hostess treat arrives after its brief absence as the company experienced bankruptcy.

On Monday, the iconic yellow treat will be back in stores with the tagline, "the sweetest comeback in the history of ever," according to reports.

Along with the Twinkie, other Hostess products such as CupCakes, HoHos and doughnuts will also be made available on Monday.

However, the business behind Hostess has been overhauled and is under the new ownership of C. Dean Metropoulos who bought it for $410 million.

Before the change of hands, Hostess had been struggling with mismanagement and their CEO, Greg Rayburn, did not effectively negotiate with all of their unionized workers who went on strike. Over 15,000 lost their jobs after lobbying for the company to change products to suit customers' changing tastes and make a deal with the unions.

Today, under new ownership, Hostess runs without union contracts and free of the $1.3 billion in debt that saddled the brand's previous owners.

Hostess' prices will remain the same though- $3.99 for a box of 10 Twinkies, with Donnettes, Zingers, fruit pies and mini muffins all returning to shelves as well.

Unfortunately, other Hostess products such as Sno Balls will take a bit longer to make a comeback, while other Hostess brands Wonder Bread and Drake's snack cakes were sold to Flower Foods and Little Debbie, respectively.

On Twitter, Twinkie became a trending topic on Monday as the golden, cream-filled cake was being celebrated.

"Hallelujah the Twinkie is back baby," posted Gracie.

Chris added, "Happy Twinkie return day!"

"Twinkie lovers rejoice," wrote Mark. "They're back!

"Long live the Twinkie," posted. "I can't wait to have my first bite!"

Twitter user Michelle was not as excited about the cake's return, writing: "The diabetic cancer stick is back in stores #Twinkie."
