USPS Clothing Line, 'Rain Heat & Snow,' Coming in 2014

All-Weather Gear to Stave Off $15 Billion Loss by Organization in 2012

A USPS clothing line was announced Tuesday in the cash-strapped federal agency's latest attempt to make money. The new all-weather apparel will reportedly be titled "Rain, Heat & Snow," according to reports.

The USPS clothing line is the brainchild of the federal mail service and a Cleveland-based apparel company, the Waconah Group. Together they plan to make functional high-end all-weather clothing that also has spaces for multiple gadgets of the 21st century.

"This agreement will put the Postal Service on the cutting edge of functional fashion," Steven Mills, the Postal Service Corporate Licensing Manager said in the press release. "The main focus will be to produce Rain Heat & Snow apparel and access using technology to create 'smart apparel'- also known as wearable electronics."

The line is also meant to invoke the patriotism of the organization; the USPS was founded the same time as the U.S., and the line is supposed to represent the country's lasting effect through the all-purpose gear.

"One side represents the legacy, the romanticism of the postal service, the idea they started the same time that the country did," Isaac Crawford, the CEO of Waconah Group, told ABC News. "We are looking at carrying some of that forward but we are also trying to be innovative … We want to make it into something that everyone will be interested in today."

Another homage to the USPS is included in the clothing line's name, "Rain Heat & Snow"- it was lifted from the postal service's creed.

"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stay these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds," reads the USPS' unofficial motto.

This isn't the organization's first attempt to try to save money since losing $15.9 billion in 2012. They also cut mail deliveries on Saturdays, which will save them substantial funds in the coming months and years.

The designs for the USPS gear will be seen in a New York City showroom in the Garment District. The clothing line will start with menswear and eventually expand to women's apparel.

"Rain Heat & Snow" launches in 2014.
