Washington Redskins Interested in a Reunion With Tim Hightower

Right now, the Washington Redskins are still looking to add more depth at the running back position. But instead of pursuing a big-name player like Jamaal Charles and Adrian Peterson, the team has reportedly brought a former player in for a free-agent visit.

ESPN's Mike Triplett has reported that Tim Hightower visited Redskins Park on Wednesday. The free agent running back has already met the San Francisco 49ers last week and Triplett said he might make one more visit before he makes a decision. Re-signing with the New Orleans Saints is also an option.

Signing Hightower is actually an interesting option for the Redskins. He's good enough to be Rob Kelley's primary backup and that means Chris Thompson, Matt Jones, Mack Brown and Keith Marshall will slide down the depth chart if he joins the team.

"No matter what, bringing in Hightower for a visit makes a lot of sense. He is a potentially solid player that could be brought in on a cheap deal. He could end up being a stopgap starter and at the very least would be a solid depth option. It will be interesting to see if the Redskins elect to sign him, or if this is more of an attempt to test the water in the running back market," Jacob Camenker of Riggo's Rag said in his article.

Hightower was born in Waldorf, Maryland and he grew up in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. He went to Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia and he played college ball at the University of Richmond.

Hightower joined the Redskins in 2011 after three seasons with the Arizona Cardinals and he actually played well. Unfortunately, his season was cut short when he suffered an ACL tear after just five games. He missed the next three seasons due to a post-surgery infection, but he managed to make a comeback with the Saints in 2015.
