Who are the Americans held hostage by Hamas?

Sagui Dekel-Chen, 35

Israeli-American Sagui Dekel-Chen was on his way to the store when he witnessed Hamas terrorists break through the border fence on Oct. 7. He rushed to his home in Kibbutz Nir Oz, where his pregnant wife and two young daughters resided.

As CBS News Miami reported Monday, the father made some brief alterations to the safe room to prevent Hamas terrorists from killing his family.

While his wife and daughters hid, Dekel-Chen joined a few other men in trying to fight off the terrorists before they were eventually taken as hostages.

Gillian Kaye, a Florida resident and stepmother of the hostage victim, told the outlet that she and the rest of the family have not received any indication of when Dekel-Chen may be released.

"He is a hostage in Gaza for more than seven weeks, going on two months, and we need to remember that they are people who need to come home," Kaye said.
