Who are the Americans held hostage by Hamas?

Gad Haggai, 73, and Judith Weinstein, 70

On the day of Hamas' attack, Judith Weinstein and her husband, Gad Haggai, were in the middle of their morning walk and forced to take cover in a field. Weinstein is a former New York resident who worked as a teacher before she retired.

The pair lived at Kibbutz Nir Oz, and they could hear the alert system going off as missiles streaked across the sky.

As The Associated Press reported last week, Weinstein shared a short video clip of the couple hearing the alert system in a group chat in the middle of their walk. Their family showed the video to the Israeli army to help pinpoint the pair's location but to no avail.

Iris Weinstein Haggai, the couple's daughter, heard a report that Weinstein had tried to call a paramedic for help, according to the outlet. However, the paramedic lost contact with the elderly pair.

"She said they were shot by terrorists on a motorcycle and that my dad was wounded really bad," the daughter said. "Paramedics tried to send her an ambulance. The ambulance got hit by a rocket."

The daughter told CTV in October that the Israeli government informed her that they believe Hamas abducted her parents.
