'X-Men: Apocalypse' Release Date, Cast News: Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan Not Appearing in Sequel
Marvel's upcoming superhero flick offering "X-Men: Apocalypse" was rumored to only feature the New Class cast of mutants, as what it already started in its previous installment "X-Men: Days of Future Past." The difference will be that two of its original cast members will be totally absent.
Sir Patrick Stewart, the 74-year-old English actor, confirms that his Professor X and co-actor Ian McKellen's Magneto won't appear in the forthcoming sequel.
"I was learning quite a lot more about it last night, and it is going to be looking very much at the earlier lives of all our characters. And so I don't think we'll be making an appearance," Stewart told Larry King on his show. "Nor Sir Ian McKellen, either."
Screen Rant meanwhile wrote that fans of the adapted comic book fiction shouldn't really be surprised with the turn of events. In their article, they said that "DoFP" was already the first step for Marvel and 20th Century Fox to introduce a new band of central characters including Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm.
The site went on to speculate that perhaps Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy, who played the younger versions of Magneto and Professor X in "DoFP," respectively, will now be taking the reins in the new installment.
As already reported, the upcoming Bryan Singer-helmed "X-Men: Apocalypse" will adapt the storyline of En Sabah Nur and his Four Horsemen. Its theater opening is slated to happen in May 27, 2016.
