Xbox Survey Hints Microsoft is Considering Trade-Ins for Digital Games

Microsoft is thinking about giving back to gamers 10 percent of what they paid for their digital games, according to a recently spotted Xbox survey. Through the trade-in scheme, gamers can "sell back" their digital games in exchange for store credit.

"If the console digital games store for the console you owned offered customers the option to 'sell back' their digital games to the store for 10 per cent of the purchase price in store credit, would you be interested in such an offer," asks one question in the survey that was sent to Xbox owners.

Microsoft provided four options as answer to the survey question: "Yes, for many of my digital titles," "Yes, but only for a few digital titles I no longer play," "No," and "Dont' know/Not sure."

This means that Xbox owners will receive $6 store credit for a game they originally bought at $60. Reddit user bibowski, who spotted the survey and shared it on the site, is okay with this idea. However, other Xbox gamers weren't so keen to trade-in, reasoning that 10 percent is pretty low. Some gamers pointed out how there was no option to trade their digital games with others or gift them a friend.

The survey also asked Xbox gamers if they would be more likely to buy if a trade-in option was ever put in place. In addition to the sell back scheme, the survey also asked a number of other questions, including what they didn't like about the service, what digital delivery policies they prefer, and how often they shared games with other players other than their immediate household, reports GamesIndustry.biz.

The survey is not a guarantee that Microsoft will be rolling out a trade-in or sell back program any time soon. However, it does indicate that it's something the company is considering to do for its Xbox brand.
