Arcade throwback

Microsoft's latest Xbox One Backward Compatibility update can certainly be called an arcade throwback. Most of the titles that it added to the program were released more than 20 years ago. Highlights include the role-playing game "Phantasy Star II" and the platformer "Sonic & Knuckles," both of which are from Sega. Joining the duo are Bandai Namco's "Dig Dug," SNK's fighting game "Samurai Shodown II," and Aksys Games' running platformer "Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien."

May the Fourth

Joining the May the Fourth celebration, a.k.a. "Star Wars Day," Microsoft released "Star Wars: The Force Unleashed" and "Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II". These titles from Disney Interactive Studios revolve around the character Starkiller.

May 3 trio

On Tuesday, Microsoft added a trio of games. There's the critically acclaimed "Jet Set Radio" from Sega, the off-road racing game from THQ "MX vs. ATV Reflex," and the card game "Texas Hold 'Em" from Gearbox Software.

For Xbox One gamers who already own any of these games, they should see them in the Ready to Download area of the My Games and Apps section. Those who don't own these games can head on over to the Xbox Store to get a copy.

The latest additions this week brings the total Xbox One backward-compatible games to nearly 170. Last week's update brought "Frogger," "Galaga Legions DX," "Altered Beast," "Comix Zone," "Double Dragon Neon," "Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime," and "The Cave."

Microsoft has been regularly adding more titles to its Xbox One Backward Compatibility library. "Call of Duty: Black Ops," "Skate 3," and the "BioShock" series have been confirmed for backward compatibility. However, there's no set release date for these titles yet.
