'Assassin's Creed: Origins' News: 'Fake' Positive Reviews Plague Game's Metacritic User Score

Ubisoft's "Assassin's Creed: Origins" was recently released, and this means it is just about time for ratings and reviews -- both from critics and users -- to arrive.

However, an extraordinary situation happened to the Metacritic users' ratings for "Assassin's Creed: Origins." As Kotaku reported, the "Assassin's Creed: Origins" page on the ratings aggregator site had been dominated recently with "fake" users writing insubstantial reviews for the game.

For example, Kotaku's report showed a screenshot of a review from user bghght433 that was posted on the game's launch day on Oct. 27 that only said "Assassin's Creed: Origins" was better than its predecessor titles "Unity" and "Syndicate."

The alleged fake review commended the game for being "more mature" and added that its main protagonist, Bayek, was an interesting character.

Metacritic confirmed that some of the reviews given on "Assassin's Creed: Origins" through their site were not legitimate but the number of alleged fake users was not identified.

Metacritic's Marc Doyle told Kotaku in an email that this situation rarely occurred on their website and happened to only two to three games every year.

He added: "And yes, we've been aware of this case, and we've been moderating those reviews (and suspending those accounts - most off of which had one single review in their history). The people doing it appear to be changing it up with the chunk of text they keep replicating, but our moderators are working overtime to combat it."

Now, it looks like Metacritic servers have done some action as "Assassin's Creed: Origins'" user score had drastically changed. From the time of Kotaku's report, the game garnered an overall user rating of 8.0.

However, as of this writing, "Assassin's Creed: Origins" has a user score of 6.4 from 807 ratings. Meanwhile, its Metascore based on reviews and scores from 50 game critics looked more positive with a mark of 82 out of 100.
