Ben Affleck Batman Workout: Role Made Him Gain 20 Lbs.

Playing a superhero in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is no easy feat because actors usually have to bulk up for their role. Ben Affleck's workout for Batman helped the actor gain 20 pounds of muscle in time for production.

Ben Affleck revealed that he had to undergo a grueling workout routine for his role in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." The actor said he got the call for the Batman role eight weeks before they started production, Latinos Health reports.

Affleck's workout for Batman seemed to have worked because he appeared ripped enough for the superhero role. While the actor considered working out easy, he revealed that the main work was in sticking with a plan that would help him grow his muscles.

To achieve his ripped physique, Affleck sought the help of his personal trainer Mark Twight, who also helped Henry Cavill prepare for "Man of Steel" and Gerard Butler for his role in "300," the report relays.

The Batman workout routine is a six-day plan that targets a different body area each day including the upper body, lower body, and back. The upper body workout includes the bench press, military press, Arnold press, seated dumb bell press, pullup, dips, biceps curl, and hammer curls. Working out the back and lower body requires the wall squat, air squat, walking lunge, deadlifts, dumbbell rows, upright rows, box jump, rowing machine, and other routines.

Affleck admitted that the workout for Batman was a bit difficult for him, especially at his "advanced age." He said he will consider the effort all worth it if fans will receive the movie well, People reports.

Aside from getting buffed up, Affleck also had to seek advice from two other actors who played the Batman. In an interview with Jesse Palmer of "Good Morning America," Affleck shared that George Clooney and Christian Bale gave him some useful tips for the role.

"I talked to Clooney and he gave me some advice which is not repeatable," Affleck told Palmer. "And I talked to Christian, who just told me to make sure I got a zipper in the suit, which was valuable, practice advice as it turned out."

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is set to premiere on Mar. 25.
