'Evil or Live' Episode 2 Spoilers: Hibiki's Life at the Academy Begins

At a time when pathological dependence to the internet has become so severe that it has been labeled a disease, a civilian educational facility known as the Elite Reeducation Academy aims to reform young people back to reality. However, there is really more to this particular facility than what meets the eye on the Japanese horror anime series, "Evil or Live."

After falling unconscious following a prolonged massively multiplayer online (MMO) gaming session, 17-year-old Hibiki woke up to find himself in a strange place that he initially mistook for a kind of fantastical virtual reality game where his primary goal was to fight off all sorts of monsters in order to survive and eventually escape.

It took a good beating down for him to finally come to terms with the fact that his own mother has enrolled him in the Academy with specific instructions to keep him there until he turned 18. And even though he did realize the error of his ways soon enough — which mostly involved being rude to his mother when she interfered with his internet time — he also figured out rather quickly that there was no way out.

He was trapped, and his only companion, the mysterious violet-haired boy who calls himself Shin, has a rather questionable reputation at the Academy and, therefore, should not be trusted.

But it seems that Hibiki is already in too deep after "selling" his life and his body to the guy who has promised to make his every wish come true. Moreover, Shin has just covered for him and has even proven himself to be rather untouchable around the facility.

Who is Shin, and how will Hibiki's interactions and ongoing contract with him affect the latter's life, actions, and chances of recovery at the Elite Reeducation Academy?

The preview for the next episode titled "Between Cruelty and Kindness" hints at the importance of following orders in the facility and may even show what happens to someone who does not obey. There is also a possibility that Shin may be obliging yet another student to do his will by covering for her offense.

"Evil or Live' airs on Tuesdays late night at 1:41 a.m. JST on Tokyo MX. Additional information on other broadcast schedules and online resources can be found on the series' official site. Episodes will also be simulcast in selected regions outside Japan via Crunchyroll.
