Is A "Red Dead Redemption" Sequel in the Works?

Is a sequel to the open-world Western shooter, "Red Dead Redemption" really in the works? And is it going to be announced at the E3 2016 in June? If recent reports are true, the answers to those questions may be a resounding "yes." A tech opinion piece on Forbes, however, begs to disagree with the trending reports about the sequel in development at Rockstar Games.

According to the Forbes' Tech contributor, Paul Tassi, the source of the news about the sequel, which became trending as soon as it came out, is quite dubious. The news was reported by FragHero, who said that someone emailed him saying that they had heard from someone who used to work as a developer at Rockstar, that "Red Dead Redemption 2" was already in development. The source of the report also claimed that the game has been in development for the past 4 years and that Rockstar is ready to unveil it at the upcoming E3 2016 in June. The rumor also cited what the title of the game would be, which is "Red Dead Redemption 2: Legends of the West."

Tassi discredits the rumor by citing that it has never been Rockstar's cup of tea to announce their big games at the E3. He noted that the developer announces its games whenever it wants and whenever it is ready. The E3 was never a venue for them to do this, so there may be nothing that can change their mind. Their games have been doing well despite being launched outside of E3. He also mentioned that the reported title, "Legends of the West" is not a title that Rockstar will veer towards.

While he may not believe this particular rumor, he however believes that a sequel is definitely in development. According to him, publisher Take-Two has always called "Red Dead" one of their "permanent franchises." He also said that there have "subtle hints" that the game has been in development in the past years.
