NBA Trade News: Rumors About Russell Westbrook's Move To LA Lakers Intensified By Delayed Contract Signing With OKC Thunder

The long-running rumor about LeBron James' possible trade to the Los Angeles Lakers spun another speculation he could probably be joined by LA native Russell Westbrook in the team by 2018 since the latter has yet to sign a new deal with the Thunder.

On Monday, the 28-year-old Oklahoma City Thunder point guard talked to the press to address the reason why he is still holding off the contract signing with his current team that could secure him of a five-year extension worth $207 million and the title of being the highest paid player in the league.

According to Westbrook, he was preoccupied all summer after the birth of his first child in May.

"I had a baby. So I've been working on a little fatherhood. But like I said before man, this is the place I want to be. I love being here," he said during the media day as reported by CBS Sport. "I'm excited about the season, obviously a lot of new changes. I'm excited. From that, I'll leave it there."

According to another report, Westbrook has a big chance of joining James in the Lakers' roster in 2018 if he chooses not to sign the Thunders contract extension before its deadline on Oct.18. In case that happens, the 2017 NBA Most Valuable Player awardee will join his teammates Carmelo Anthony and Paul George in the free agency market next year.

Meanwhile, James' answers about the rumors of his Lakers transfer remained vague when asked during the media day. According to the 32-year-old small forward, he is still prepared to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers in the upcoming season.

"Obviously, you guys know me and anytime I'm able to be a free agent or my contract is ending, then I will approach that when the summer comes, James stated in front of the press as reported by Metro. "I won't ever cheat my teammates or cheat the fans or be in a situation where I am talking about free agency all year long. Because I'm not going to give energy to something I can handle in the summertime."
