'Nier: Automata' News: On the Possible Sequel and How it Saved PlatinumGames

Developed by PlatinumGames and published by Square Enix, "Nier: Automata" is turning out to be one of their best releases as recent reports reveal that sales have consistently gone up since it landed in stores earlier this year. The reception of the gaming community seems to have driven the publishers to look into the possibility that it might be a successful franchise.

"Nier: Automata, which we released in February 2017, has proven a global hit far in excess of our expectations. It has not only reminded the world of the high quality of Japanese games but also demonstrated significant potential for future franchise development," said Square Enix in a statement as reported by US Gamer. "In North America, more than 20 percent of purchases of Final Fantasy XV has been via digital downloads. The global download rate for Nier: Automata has been even higher at over 30 percent."

Furthermore, it seems that Square Enix is serious when they said that they would consider making it as part of a future franchise as they have already put up a recruitment page for those interested in being part of the team behind "Nier: Automata." Meanwhile, developer PlatinumGames seem to be thrilled with the game title's unexpected success as co-founder Hideki Kamiya has expressed that it quite literally saved the company.

Square Enix has yet to release any information on the possible sequel of "Nier: Automata." However, considering it is already a follow-up of the original "Nier" released in 2010, the publishers might have to focus on expanding the central story that "Nier: Automata" showcased. Given that the game title was born out of a collaboration with cult creator Yoko Taro, any sequel of "Nier: Automata" is expected to showcase the eerie and weird feeling that the game title gave to its players.

"Nier: Automata" is now available for PlayStation 4 and Windows PC.
