Pee-Wee Herman and 'Top Chef' Recap
Pee-Wee Herman has traveled to the Alamo as a guest judge on "Top Chef: Texas" this week.
The competitors on "Top Chef" were challenged to make pancakes, which is the former "Pee-Wee Herman Show" host's favorite food. "I love pancakes, but I'm not gonna marry them," exclaimed Herman during the episode.
"Top Chef" contender Edward Lee's pancakes ultimately won the night's challenge, and earned him $5,000 but no immunity of elimination.
The next challenge saw the chefs travel to the Alamo in San Antonio for the elimination round, called "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure" after the comedian's 1985 film. On bikes, the competitors shopped for food and each had to find a restaurant that would allow them to make their family-style meals for the "Top Chef" judges -- all within three hours.
After finishing their shopping the chefs managed to find the restaurant in time, but each made a dish with chicken.
"Chicken, lots of chicken," commented Herman on the similar dishes. After sampling the food, the judges saw that competitors Ed, Sarah, and Grayson were in the bottom group.
"They all failed, and all their dishes needed ketchup," joked Herman. In the end, Grayson had to pack up her knives and head home after her elimination.
Also known as Paul Reubens, Pee-Wee Herman has also reportedly joined the cast of "Frank or Francis." The comedian will take on the role of an old-school film critic, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "Frank or Francis" will see Herman acting alongside Jack Black, Elizabeth Banks, and Steve Carell.
The story follows a dispute between an intellectual director, Frank, portrayed by Carell, and an online blogger, Francis, played by Black.
Directing the production is Charlie Kaufman who has also released "Adaptation" and "Being John Malkovich." "Frank and Francis" is expected to premiere in 2013.
Running from 1986-1991, "Pee-Wee's Playhouse" was an Emmy Award-winning children's program on CBS.
In 1991, the actor was arrested in Florida and charged with indecent exposure. After the incident, Reubens became weary of the Pee-Wee character, but he has since re-embraced his bicycle-riding alter-ego.
