PS4 News: Sony CEO Calls System a 'Games Console'

Sony plans on revealing more information about the PlayStation 4 gaming console during next month's E3.

Microsoft marketed its new Xbox One as an all-in-one entertainment system that encompasses gaming, movies, television and online communication between players. Sony's strategy for releasing the top console for this generation will be a bit more basic, according to the company's CEO Kaz Hirai.

"The most important thing we need to make sure we do, at least initially, is that we all agree and understand that the PS4 is a great video game console that appeals to gamers," said Hirai. "If we miss that part than I don't think we get the initial establishment of the console."

However, Sony still plans to implement other features in order to appease those looking for the all-in-one experience. But the company did not reveal how it will do this yet.

"We take a look at this first and foremost as a game console," said Hirai. "We don't want to end there. That's an area we will obviously reveal and talk about in the coming months."

Sony will most likely reveal more about the extras on the PS4 at E3, as the company recently released a brand new teaser trailer that showed what the console will actually look like. They released the teaser just before Microsoft unveiled the Xbox One last month.

The ad starts out by flashing the PlayStation logo on the screen and then it becomes white, showing a blurry console like figure approaching the camera. Sony flashes multiple other images on the screen that could be parts of the new system; however, nothing is confirmed during the actual trailer.

The ad, shrouded in mystery, ends by displaying the date "June 10th 2013 6:00 PM PDT." The date when Sony will provide fans with more information on the console during this year's E3.
