Sony Xperia Z5 Rumors, Specs: Unannounced Android Flagship Could Be First With Fingerprint Sensor For Japanese Manufacturer

Sony is a trusted brand in the niche of laptops and other computing devices. Like other PC brands like Lenovo and Asus, Sony has successfully entered the mobile market using its popularity in laptops and other consumer devices.

Unfortunately, the rise of Samsung as a perennial favorite in the Android market has caused some problems for the Japan-based manufacturer. Last year, in an attempt to match the specs of the latest Samsung flagship, Sony launched two flagships -- the Xperia Z3 and Z4, with minimal increments in specs and features.

This year, Sony was bound to make the same mistake, especially that most manufacturers are releasing "duo" devices like Apple's iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, Xiaomi's Mi Note Pro, and Mi Note, and Samsung's Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.

And so, Sony decided to launch the Xperia Z4 globally, under the name of Xperia Z3+. The handset which was exclusively available in selected markets, is now available worldwide.

But in spite the recent global rollout of the Sony Xperia Z4 as the Xperia Z3+, there are already rumors about the Xperia Z5.

Based on the report by GSM Arena, the upcoming flagship device is set to be unveiled by Sony in September, which is probably during the time other manufacturers would announce new devices.

Rumor has it that the upcoming device will boast the unannounced but upcoming Snapdragon 820 SoC from Qualcomm, including a 4GB RAM, and 4,500mAh battery. However, what's more notable is the rumor that the device will be the first Xperia smartphone to pack a fingerprint sensor.

Rounding up the rumored specs sheet include a 21MP Sony Exmor RS IMX230 CMOS sensor that can shoot 4K clips, and an all new design.
