UFC Fight News: Conor McGregor vs Jose Aldo Preview
Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo will finally meet inside The Octagon after a boisterous and hyped promotion from the UFC — a fight many pundits is considering as the most-anticipated in its history. Aldo hasn't given up a fight in such a long time, while McGregor is a charismatic mixed martial artist who likes to put on the pressure on his opponents.
The McGregor-Aldo showdown is the main event of the UFC fight card to be held in Las Vegas next week, Dec. 12. Aldo is the featherweight champ, while McGregor is the interim title holder. This fight has been talked about since its original announcement for UFC 189. However, Aldo pulled himself out of the fight because of a reported rib injury, which later became a subject of controversy because of the contrasting reports from the fighter's camp and to that of UFC president Dana White.
Several reports claimed that Aldo was overweight and had to make an excuse. Meanwhile, McGregor instead fought Chad Mendes and won, making himself the rightful contender for the featherweight belt.
There is good reason to consider this as a historic fight in the making considering that the Brazilian Aldo is rated no. 1 in the UFC pound-for-pound rankings, while McGregor himself is one of the very few contenders who has a chance to pull off an upset. Although he's only ranked 12th in the current P4P rankings, the Irish fighter is actually undefeated in the UFC.
It is also worth mentioning that Aldo may have gone undefeated for a very long time now, but most of his recent fights have gone the distance. That should be intriguing since McGregor loves to mix it up every second of every round.
The main event of the Dec. 12 UFC fight card is supported by a bunch of high-quality matchups, led by UFC middleweight champ and P4P no. 3 fighter Chris Weidman going up against Luke Rockhold and Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza versus Yoel Romero, also in the middleweight division.
