UFC News: Freddie Roach Hints on Georges St-Pierre Comeback Plans

It's kind of ironic to hear about a mixed martial artist's plan on returning to action from someone who's popular in a competing sport. Future Hall-of-Fame boxing trainer Freddie Roach revealed that former UFC star Georges St-Pierree is looking to make a comeback to the Octagon.

Roach is a legend among hardcore fight fans, having trained and sparred with some of the best-known fighters today. But not a lot of people know that aside from his prized pupil, Manny Pacquiao, Roach actually holds mitts with fighters in mixed martial arts; among them is St-Pierre.

It is still unclear if the boxing trainer has been given the official capacity to talk about the Canadian mixed martial artist's plan, but the way he talks about it looks like he's pretty sure. "He's gonna train for a fight. He's gonna have a six week training camp and at the end of the six weeks if he feels like he's ready to fight and he's hungry like he always has been, he's gonna do it. He's gonna fight one more time," Roach said.

This development, whether it is still a rumor or something that only lacks confirmation from St-Pierre, will definitely be good news for all mixed martial arts fans out there. As for the UFC, what if the former welterweight champion actually becomes the main attraction for UFC 200 in July next year? At this point, everyone can make their own guess.

At least the truth is that the two-time UFC champion has really been contemplating on a return even if he's already 34. He told Roach he'll head into training camp and then from there he will decide to make that final decision.

The man they call the "Rush" surprised everyone when he quit the sport almost two years ago after a disputed split decision win over Johny Hendricks during UFC 167. When asked about his reason, he simply said that he needed to step away from fighting. With that, there really is no official announcement of him retiring in the first place.
