Usher performs throwback set, gives shout-out to God

In a throwback moment for Gen-Xers everywhere, pop star Usher took the stage at halftime to sing some of his biggest hits from the early 2000s, along with appearances by rappers Lil Jon and Ludacris.

But it was his performance atop an image of a fiery pit onstage for his song "Let It Burn" that raised some eyebrows on social media.

But the Super Bowl halftime headliner wasn't all hellfire and brimstone. Usher also made a reference to God during a break in between performances. 

"But if you do call, only God answers prayers," he said. "They said I wouldn't make it; they said I wouldn't be here today. But I am."

Interestingly, Usher also showed up at a Balenciaga show in Oct. 2023 wearing another style face mask similar to those worn by Kanye West.
