Time Well Spent
Let's say that your phone rings tomorrow morning, and it's a call from the manager of your bank. He tells you, "I received a very unusual call the other day. Someone who loves you very much and is quite wealthy has given you a large sum of money. This anonymous donor will be depositing 86,400 cents into your account every single day."
Between Two Worlds
We may envision heaven as being so distant, so far away. But the Bible never says heaven is distant. There is a supernatural world around us, and I think heaven is not as far away as we may think.
Prewired for Hope
Did you know that you were prewired for hope? There is a restlessness in the human heart for something more than this world can offer.
Do You Want to Change?
The Gospel of Mark gives us the account of a group of men who wanted to bring their paralyzed friend to Jesus for healing. Jesus was teaching in a home, and the men couldn't get in the door with their disabled friend because of the huge crowd. Undaunted, they climbed up on top of the house and dug through the roof to lower the paralyzed man inside. . .dropping him right in front of Jesus.
Gone So Soon
We make so much of this life, but it comes and goes rather quickly. The Bible tells us, "We are here for only a moment, visitors and strangers in the land as our ancestors were before us. Our days on earth are like a passing shadow, gone so soon without a trace" (1 Chronicles 29:15). We think far too much of this life and far too little about eternity.
Never Hopeless
"The hopes of the godless evaporate." — Job 8:13
Back to the Gym!
When you want to get in shape, it's actually through the process of tearing your muscles down that you build them up. The first day of your workout isn't so hard. But the next day, you're in some serious pain. Everything hurts.
Temporary Troubles
Our troubles won't last forever. As 2 Corinthians 4:17 says, "For our present troubles are small and won't last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!"
A Faith that Can't Be Trusted
Generally in life, we want to avoid pain. We want to be comfortable. Things like pain-free dentistry appeal to us. And so does effortless weight loss. We are looking for the workout that doesn't require us to, well, actually work out. And we want the pounds to just melt off without changing our eating habits.
Don't Forget
Israel had gone through 40 years of wilderness wanderings where they literally were dependent on God for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Every day, the Lord brought them manna, which would be waiting for them outside of their tent. But when they were poised to enter into a land flowing with milk and honey, a land of abundance, the Lord gave them a warning, essentially saying, "Now as you enter into this land, I want you to remember Me. After you have eaten and are full, do not forget the Lord."
