The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod passed a resolution this week affirming the belief that God created the Earth “in six natural days.”

The resolution also declared that the creation of Adam as the first human being was a “historical event” and rejected the claims of the theory of evolution.

The LCMS, which is a conservative denomination, held its convention this week in Tampa, Florida.

— Survey: The more Americans know about religion, the less they like evangelicals

A new study from the Pew Research Center found that Americans with higher levels of religious knowledge had less favorable views of evangelicals.

Groups were rated on a thermometer scale ranging from zero to 100.

The groups with the warmest rating of at least 60 were Jews, Catholics and mainline Protestants. Evangelical Christians were rated 57. Meanwhile, Muslims and atheists had a rating of 49.

— Memorial for fallen police officers removed over ‘Lord’ controversy

A memorial honoring fallen police officers in Tega Cay, South Carolina, was removed amid controversy stemming from city leaders’ decision to remove the word “Lord” from the monument.

The memorial was placed outside the Tega Cay Police Department earlier this month and it features a prayer. After some complained about the three references to the “Lord,” city leaders covered up those references.

The cover-up prompted complaints from others in the community, forcing the city to remove the memorial altogether.

— Southern Baptists distance themselves from film warning against social justice, godless ideology

Several Southern Baptist leaders are distancing themselves from a film produced by Founders Ministries that warn against “godless ideologies,” including social justice.

The leaders were responding to a trailer for the film, titled “By What Standard,” that was released and they say they were misrepresented.

Danny Akin, president of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, said, “What I saw was edited footage that I believed to be misleading, which misrepresents important issues and what leaders in the SBC actually affirm.”

Akin and other leaders also expressed concern about the tone of the film and its divisive nature.

A federal judge issued a temporary block to a set of Arkansas laws that, if enacted, would likely lead to the closure of the state’s only surgical abortion clinic.

The three laws include a ban on abortions after 18 weeks into a pregnancy, abortions performed because a baby was diagnosed with Down syndrome, and a requirement that abortion providers be board-certified.
