2016 Presidential Polls Update: Ted Cruz Leads Donald Trump in Iowa Poll
In what could be another wake-up call for Donald Trump, a new poll reveals that he is only second best to Sen. Ted Cruz in Iowa.
On Sunday, Fox News released a poll that puts the Texas senator on top of the business mogul with 28 percent of the people's support, compared to Trump's 26 percent. The poll aimed to discover which Republican candidate is preferred by the Iowa community.
CNN reports that according to the Iowa Republicans, Trump is the best man to handle issues within the economy and probably even make a change to industries that are beginning to fall. On the other hand, the voters think that Cruz is much more apt for the most recent issue that has struck the United States: national security.
As for the rest, voters provided Florida Sen. Marco Rubio with 13 percent, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson with 10 percent, and the remaining candidates below the mark.
It is worth noting that the new poll was released just a day after Ann Selzer, nationally acclaimed election expert, unveiled in a Des Moines Register/Bloomberg Politics poll that Cruz is leading Trump by 10 points.
Selzer's polls and election predictions are widely recognized, making her surveys the standard in the Des Moines area.
The polls show that somehow Trump's appeal among some states has gradually started to stall over the past few weeks. It also proves that minds change and support for a certain candidate could be affected by comments made during campaign speeches and other factors that could convince voters to think twice before finally writing down a candidate's name during election day.
Meanwhile, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton remains the front-runner among Democratic candidates as she garnered 50 percent of the people's support in the new poll. Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is way behind with 36 percent and Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley is further back in the race with only 5 percent.
