5 observations from the ground in Gaza by a former British Army officer

5. Israel is not committing genocide
Fox rejected the idea that the actions of Israel meet the definition of genocide. Asserting that intent is the "key factor to genocide," Fox disputed the notion that Israel has deliberately sought to eliminate the Palestinian people as critics allege.
"If you look at the fact that Israel has sustained 3,000 casualties, that Israel has the capability to end this tomorrow. If they really wanted to wipe out 2 million Palestinians, they have enough firepower to do that."
"There have been more bombs dropped in Gaza than people have been killed," he added. "Either the IDF are the worst shots in history or they're actually taking care with civilian lives."
"You don't give the vaccines for polio to the entire child population of Gaza if you're trying to destroy them," he continued, "You don't facilitate twice the amount of food aid going into Gaza as was going in before the war if you're trying to kill everyone."
Fox challenged Egypt to open its border.
"If Egypt really cared about Gaza civilians, they would open their border and allow them to flee just like any other war," he said, noting that the civilian deaths in Ukraine aren't as high because people were allowed to flee.
When asked why Egypt is preventing refugees from Gaza from entering the country, Fox pointed to "insurgents in the Sinai Peninsula that Egypt is desperately trying to keep a handle on" and efforts to keep the Muslim Brotherhood at bay. Adding 2 million refugees to the mix could "further destabilize the situation," he said.
Fox insisted that Egypt has the "power to end this genocide immediately by opening the heavily reinforced border gate."
