The Mamdani campaign has prioritized “Delivering Care, Opportunity, and Protection for LGBTQI+ New Yorkers.”

In a memo published by the campaign, Mamdani condemned local hospitals for no longer performing body-deforming sex-change operations on youth confused about their sex.

Many hospitals stopped performing such procedures following an executive order by the Trump administration vowing to withhold federal funds from institutions that mutilate children's bodies under the guise of “gender-affirming care.”

The Mamdani campaign has promised to “protect gender-affirming care immediately by investing $65 million in public providers to provide gender-affirming care to New Yorkers who seek it.”

Another aspect of Mamdani’s policy platform involves taking legal action against private hospitals that have stopped performing these procedures on minors.

Mamdani also seeks to make NYC an “LGBTQIA+ Sanctuary City” by upholding the “right to accessible healthcare, especially gender-affirming and reproductive health care, for all city residents.”

The mayoral candidate expanded on his vision of protections for abortion in a separate policy memo, signaling his intention to “strengthen the city’s Abortion Access Hub by doubling funding" to $2 million.

According to Mamdani, the Hub “confidentially helps New Yorkers find abortion providers and supports people living outside of New York through the process of scheduling appointments and finding financial assistance.”

Another priority of Mamdani involves protecting NYC residents from what he claims is "false or deceptive information" from pro-life pregnancy centers. He added that he plans to enforce "Local Law 17 forcing these centers to disclose whether they have licensed medical professionals.”

Mamdani also intends to create an Office of LGBTQI+ Affairs that will establish a “jointly run Trans Workforce Development Program with $3M in funding and establish a [$2 million City University of New York] initiative to provide scholarships and support the increase of Trans New Yorkers working in education, social work, and healthcare.”
