5. Flynn’s daughter expressed confidence that her mother was with ‘her best friend Jesus’
Ashley Flynn’s mother, Jill Smith, also testified Tuesday.
Immediately after learning her daughter had been killed, she took the Flynns’ two daughters and their two dogs to her home. She did not tell the girls, who were asleep at the time of the shooting, that their mother had been killed, saying only that someone “broke into the house.”
When Flynn later arrived at the Smiths’ house, he told the girls that “someone broke in the house and hurt mommy and she’s in Heaven.” Jill Smith testified that the girls “cried and cried,” and recalled that “after a few minutes of just screaming and crying, Alyssa just sat up on the side of the couch and she said ‘I don’t know how and I don’t know why but I know God’s got a plan and He’s going to work this for good.’”
The other granddaughter, Ava, said, “Mommy’s with her best friend Jesus in Heaven,” Jill Smith testified. The girl added that her mother “always talked about her best friend Jesus and now she’s with Him in Heaven.”
As Jill Smith described her granddaughters’ reactions, Flynn visibly broke down in tears.
